Falling From a Low Height is as Dangerous as any Fall!

It is a known fact that most work at height is conducted at low heights (up to 80% of all risk activity areas). Statistics prove that up to 50% of all fatal falls from heights in the workplace occurred between 1 and 3m from the ground. This risk activity area is known as a Low Height. Low height risk activity areas are notoriously diverse and are frequently accessed by a variety of technical and maintenance workers, causing the likelihood of a fatal fall to be alarmingly high.

The Problem with Conventional Gear

Conventional fall arrest equipment is often ineffective at low heights due to the length of lanyards and distance requirements of deceleration devices. Because of this equipment gap, low heights remain arguably the highest risk activity area in the workplace. The Temporary Horizontal Safety Line (HSL) is used to create a continuous anchor of up to 20m between two reliable anchors or structures for the connection of fall arrest andrestraint equipment. The HSL is fitted with two Anchor Slings, Connectors and an integral heavy- duty Ratchet for fastening.

Head protecton is very important when working in an environment where bumps from overhead structures or equipment may cause head injury.It is further a standard prac@ce to wear safety helmets with integral chin straps with a release mechanism (150N) when pulled on hard, to protect the wearer from neck injuries. In thecase of a fall, the helmet must also stay on the wearer’s head, to protect against collisionswith structures and objects.

Low Height FAS is supplied complete with a neoprene Throw Bag, Ropes (Anchor- and Man-Lines, Connectors, Rope Grab, Belay Devices and Anchor Round Slings. The components are pre-packet, ready for use. Bag sizes may vary according to the various lengths of k its. Low Height FAS is fully adjustable in  length, but it is recommended to contact our technicians to assist in ensuring that the correc t kits are chosen to be compatible to the risk activity area structure. Portable Weight Anchors. Useful for ‘building’ fall arrest anchors anywhere, it is recommended for use in series by having it connected with Temporary Horizontal Safety Lines to provide anchorage for two users and continuous attachment whilst travelling in parallel [Fig. HSL].

A simple document which includes a low heights risk assessment and documented fall protection plan. Controls are split between engineering and safe working procedural controls. Engineering controls include the standards and design specifications all correct PPE, anchor systems and portable ladder stability safety devices.

Admin controls are presented in multimedia format in any language as instructed by the Client. Procedures include Inspections, packing and storage; deployment, connection, rigging correctly; vertical fall protection and surface restraint methods; emergency evacuatioon; assisted rescue techniques. This essential document is necessary for refresher training, technical reference and is also a legal requirement.

In addition, learners will be taught to understand the risk assessment, specified controls,emergency evacuation and assisted rescues.
